Recent injuries are those which have occurred within the last two weeks. They can include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Sprain - Sprains are injuries to ligaments. They are often accompanied by swelling initially and then bruising of the affected area; the ankle is a common site of sprains. In children, the growth plate is often weaker than the ligaments. This is why some “sprains” of the ankle turn out to actually be growth plate fractures.

  • Dislocation - A separation of two bones that normally come together to form a joint. These are very painful, usually with an obvious visual deformity, and should be reduced (put back into place) as soon as possible. Common dislocations are of the shoulder or fingers.

  • Nursemaid’s elbow - A common type of dislocation in young children, usually occurs after pulling on the arm of a resisting toddler.

  • Fracture - Please see, “Is It Broken?

My son went through the good part of two decades under Dr. Gupta’s care for mild CP and spastic diplegia — among other issues resulting from birth trauma. The doctor is an awesome man who truly listens and understands, with an emphasis on educating and being a resource. He gives each patient and caregiver TIME. What a gift! He’s always thinking of what else to do to help. My son, Micah (almost 23 now), is now working in the construction trades — the heavy work of installing flooring and tile — making a living. He voluntarily abandoned his disability status and is determined to earn a decent living.

Some days are still physically hard, but nothing like they were years ago when we started on a schedule of Botox injections to ease the muscle issues.

Our lives would be vastly different without Dr. Gupta and his staff!
